psychoticallytrans

This is a project to allows disabled people to contact their representatives regarding any issue on ASAN’s Action Alert List. These issues include but are not limited to Stop the Shock, updating SSI amounts, and increasing home and community based services. I encourage you to look at the whole list. Many of the Action Alerts apply to allistic disabled people.

It can be used by people with ANY disabilities that make it difficult to place a phone call. Any disability that interferes either with calling or with being understood over the phone counts. Anxiety? Speech impediment? Mutism? This is for you to make your opinion heard.

If you don’t have a disability that makes speaking on the phone hard, and you don’t mind placing calls, this link also includes a way for you to help.

“If you would like to volunteer, please email info@proxycaller.org with your full name and the best email to send your account information to.”

I strongly request that this be spread around. The more people who know about this and use it, the more disabled people can have a voice.

hi everyone! american airlines broke my laptop!

like my tweet says, i was forced to have my carry-on checked because they ran out of overhead space. i had no choice in this or i would not be back in texas in time to get to work.

i was not encouraged to remove my laptop from my bag, in fact, the employee only asked that i ensure any electronics were powered off, therefore implying having electronics in my bag was fine.

obviously, this is a completely unexpected expense and i'm fuming. i tried to file a claim, and they are refusing to accept it. i do not have time to go back to the airport to fuck with this right now. i do need a new laptop. i'm trying for one that costs around $600 but i can live with a dinky $200 laptop if i need to.

The group that likes to masqurade as a fucking government business offering rebates to lower you fucking bills. It was a lie, and now we need out and I cannot afford the lawyer needed. If anyone wants to help, I have a GoFundMe and a Ko-Fi

I am not expecting this to make it anywhere, but at this point anything to get this lien off of my house is worth a try.

A teacher in Florida is being investigated by the state for ‘indoctrination’ after showing a Disney film which features a prominent gay character. The investigation comes after fifth grade teacher Jenna Barbee showed her class Disney’s 2022 animated movie Strange World as a “brain break”, following a morning of standardized testing. The film features Ethan, an openly gay character, and a romantic plot between Ethan and his crush, Diazo. On TikTok, the teacher said she chose to show the film because it fit in with the class’s curriculum, as they are currently learning about ecosystems. The LGBTQ+ element was not the reason she put the movie on, but described it as “harmless”. Barbee claims she was reported to the state by a school board member, who she says is on a “rampage” against any form of representation in schools and her daughter was in the classroom watching Strange World. A tweet by Barbee’s friend, Carl Zee, shows a letter from the Florida Department of Education which states the teacher is being investigated for “inappropriate conduct”. “If you have evidentiary witnesses or documents pertinent to the case, send them to this office no later than two weeks from receipt of this letter,” the letter states. “[The students] didn’t even know this was a big deal until the board member and the state made it a big deal. “They’re using it against me saying they’re ‘protecting the children’ and it’s for their safety. But what is this actually showing them?” Barbee questioned in the video. She said the investigation is more “traumatising” for the youngsters than the film was in the fist place. “But the minor representations, that have nothing to do with the movie, are such a big deal that now admin in is in their room, pulling their teacher out, calling the students one by one down to the office to interrogate them in the middle of my lessons,” she said. The teacher added that a number of her students had told her they are members of the LGBTQ+ community, prior to the film being shown.

⚠️SPREAD THE WORD⚠️ HB999/SB266 just got signed, and I refuse to keep yelling at a brick wall.

This bill aims, among other things, to ban core classes/courses of study that teach "theories that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege are inherent in the institutions of the United States and were created to maintain social, political, and economic inequities."

....which, as anybody who knows anything about anything about the United States knows, is literally the case. We see it in everything from finance to healthcare to job opportunities to literally everything we see. And we know for a fact that our institutions are and always have been steeped in inequity — such as law enforcement, which was literally brought up to maintain social, political, and economic inequities. There is no debate, only people who wish to force us back down.

The bill also bans and defunds DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs such as pride groups, Black Student Union, etc. (EDIT: The bill does not outright ban the groups, it prevents them from receiving funding outside of student fees, in the hopes of choking them out into nonexistence.)

I'm a Floridian. I refuse to keep yelling at a brick wall. I'll post it every day if I have to, but I need this to be heard. Our government does not represent us. We cannot afford to give up at this stage, we can only fight back harder. We need to be louder and stronger and more resilient than ever.

And, for the last time, no we will not be moving out of Florida. We will not be giving up and leaving our homes, our families, our livelihoods — and many of us, including myself, are incapable of even doing so. We will stay and fight, and we expect those outside of Florida — even in the bluest of blue states — to stand with us and fight too. This is your fight too. Today it's Florida, tomorrow it's your home. These problems are not exclusive to Florida. These problems are FAR from exclusive to Florida. These are problems that are rearing their heads across the whole nation, that could become mirrored in other nations as well — and we need to fight back NOW — or forever wish we had.

Reblog. Share. Spread the word.

No matter who you are, no matter where you are — this is your fight, too.

fuckin love living in florida /s

i've been listening to a lot more fat liberationist stuff recently and like...

so obvs i already had some backing in a lot of the basic theory, stuff like institutional anti-fatness in medicine, fashion, travel, etc, but like

so as a really thin guy who's always found it impossible to gain weight, its been unbelievably emotionally and mentally liberating to hear people talking really casually about the disability that's associated with thinness

so like being really thin, you lack additional joint and bone support - if you fall, you have less padding and less STRUCTURE to protect your bones from breaks and fractures, right?

obvs theres plenty of fat people that do have issues with bones and joints, im not saying thsres not, its just that normally i feel like im the lone person saying "being this thin is bad for me and is part of various health problems i also have"

and idk its just like. my whole life i was such a sickly child lmao

like i couldnt stand for long periods except "long period" would often be like. any period. i didnt understand how my peers were just standing for so long and just weathering that, bc to me it wasnt possible at all - i breathed badly, my joints were fucked etc

and looking back and realising as i get more disabled like the extent to which i was similarly disabled in my youth, and how i lacked the language to verbalise or sometimes even recognise my own pain and struggle

but also like

the treatment of me as so evil and lazy because i wasn't exercising, or because like. a PE teacher would pick me out as an example because i was so thin, and then be furious that i wasn't remotely physically fit, and that i was disabled

i remember multiple times esp from cis female teachers just. frothing rage at my diet and the things i ate, or when i wrinkled my nose at talk about diets, bc i was so thin so i had to be doing The Right Things, and if i was that thin and doing bad things i had to be punished

and its bc a lot of these ppl thought of fatness and being fat as a punishment, a target for abuse that people deserved, and bc i was a young disabled trans guy like. i deserved punishment for my laziness and nonconformity, and it became a lot about my weight

like expressing that i wanted to gain weight, that i was cold all the time, that i had no energy etc, that eating was hard but that i enjoyed food, all of that was met with such fuckin aggression and really sharp policing, esp from PE teachers and esp from women

and obvs all that is to do with the way that diet culture particularly targets women and those perceived as women, and the desire to engage in lateral violence to police others into complying with gender roles etc as they were upholding them

but idk like. fat liberationist politics is imo inherently tied up with disability liberation, because of the way that "health" is weaponised as a symbol of being good or deserving, and how fatness and disability are both used as targets and symbols of evil and punishment

MOST OF ALL for fat & disabled people

but for nondisabled fat people disability is often threatened as punishment - if you don't become less fat, you'll (deserve to) become disabled

and for disabled thin people, if you don't act less disabled, you'll (deserve to) become fat

and its not a punishment to be fat or disabled or sick. its just how some people are. its not BAD to be this way - and what makes things hard for us is not something inherent to the badness of our bodies, but instead the lack of kindness and accommodation anybody is willing to extend to them

YEAH YEAH YEAH im not disabled but i feel this so hard like. my mom was (is?) so fatphobic she gave me an ED as a kid--just kind of trained me into it and it got so bad i nearly died and im in recovery now gaining weight (trying to; it's been hard) and so many people crack REALLY harmful jokes about it and its so fucked? i remember my last psychiatrist when i eagerly told her i was finally 100lbs snickered and went 'and not a pound more right?' and it made me so fucking angry like no! fuck you! a healthy weight for my height is 115-120lbs! but like being super thin fucking sucks!! regardless of what reason youre thin for youre cold all the time your joints hurt sitting hurts sometimes blood pressure problems etc i personally experienced a lot of harassment and abuse a la 'youre so thin and weak and cant fight back i bet i can do whatever i want to u and it fucked me up if youre not 'normal' on either pole people will be fucking vicious to you its not as systemic and societal as what fat people go through but by god its fucking bad too when i tell people id rather be fat than have struggled through the health shit i did i fuckin mean it and people are Aghast at that like 'what? but your body is so perfect! youre so pretty!' no???? this nearly killed me you fucking weirdo people prioritize attractiveness over health to a disgusting degree but its HARD to talk about thinness being unpleasant BECAUSE of this overarching 'everyone should be supermodel-thin' people can talk about how unhealthy those bodies are and yet if you also have one and say 'yeah im unhealthy' it just isnt. listened to and thats fair in some cases fat people definitely have to deal with a Lot of problems and so much more bullshit but like. idk it feels like the flipside of fat people's health issues being dismissed as 'just lose weight' was what i dealt with: health issues from my thinness being ignored because 'well you look good' and what the fuck even is that. everything about both these things is so wrong

Hey students, here’s a pro tip: do not write an email to your prof while you’re seriously sick.

Signed, a person who somehow came up with “dear hello, I am sick and not sure if I’ll be alive to come tomorrow and I’m sorry, best slutantions, [name]”.

I mean, if someone wrote that to me, I’d probably believe they were sick.

On the other side of this, once after getting taken to the ER by ambulance, I got an email from the professor whose class I’d passed out in, and the message had no text, just the subject line “you good?”

Claritin makes me weird, but I have allergies so there’s about a month and a half block of time where I’m taking Claritin and am just weird most of the time.

Anyway, my last year of college, I got the flu or something in late March and was also taking Mucinex. I told my professor I couldn’t come to class one day by email except I couldnt think of what to say, so my medicated ass decided to make a Fry meme. I think it said something like “Not sure if I can go to class with a head the size of Texas, bottom text.” I didn’t think until the next day that it probably wasn’t socially-acceptable to tell your philosophy professor you weren’t coming to class via Tumblr style memes. When i got back to class, i found that she’d printed it out and taped it to the classroom bulletin board.

You know, it occurs to me that the known internet phenomenon of Reddit “am I the asshole?” posts having completely misleading headers is actually a really great example of a far less known but far more common practice of extreme journalistic spin in cases where there are large monetary incentives to diminish the story in question.

Like, if you see a Reddit post titled “Am I the asshole for buying my wife a new dress?”, the post is pretty much always something totally deranged like: “I (48) really dislike the way my wife (20) dresses, because I think it’s too revealing and makes her look slutty, which was fine when we started dating five years ago, but it makes me feel like she’s going to cheat on me now that we’re married. I’ve politely asked her to get new clothes multiple times, and every time she refused because she said she liked her clothes, and didn’t want to waste money buying new ones. Yesterday I couldn’t take it anymore so I threw out a bunch of her old dresses and bought her a new one that was more modest looking. She started crying because one of the dresses I threw out had been left to her by her mom who died when she was a teen, but I couldn’t have known that it had sentimental value. She said that I should have asked, but obviously if I asked she’d have just told me not to throw out any of her clothes, including the ones that weren’t sentimental. Also, the more modest dress I bought was pretty expensive, and she never thanked me for it. Am I the asshole here, or is she being unreasonable?”

Similarly, whenever you see a headline like “Woman Wins Millions From McDonald’s Because Her Hot Coffee Was Too Hot”, if you dig a bit, you’ll almost always quickly find out that what actually happened was: A 79-year-old ordered coffee which, unbeknownst to her, was being served extremely dangerously hot, because McDonald’s was trying to have coffee that stayed warm over a long commute without spending any extra money on cups with better insulation. The coffee spilled on the old woman’s lap, giving her severe third degree burns over a huge portion of her body, including her genitals. She got to a hospital and they managed to save her life with skin grafting, but she became disabled from the accident, and her genitals and thighs were permanently disfigured. She tried to settle with McDonald’s for her medical costs, and McDonald’s refused to cover any portion of her medical expenses at all, and so she sued. At trial, the jury discovered that this same exact thing had happened seven hundred times before, and McDonald’s had still decided not to change their policy because paying out individual suits was cheaper than moderately reducing their coffee profits. As a result, the jury awarded punitive damages designed to penalize McDonald’s two days worth of their coffee profits, in addition to the woman’s medical costs.

I think it’s largely the same phenomenon, but I know a lot of people who are familiar with the first case, but don’t know to look for the second. If you see some totally outrageous “how could a person ever sue over this stupid thing?” case, you should immediately be incredibly suspicious that that’s all that actually happened, because a lot of the time, it absolutely isn’t. The people who have the most incentive to make their opponent look not only wrong, but completely crazy for having any sort of grievance at all, are often the actually unreasonable ones.

Anyway this is all to say that if I see ANY of y’all automatically siding with McDonald’s over the recent case where 4-year-old girl was severely burned by their chicken nuggets because “hurr durr dumb kid didn’t know that chicken nuggets were hot, people sue over anything lol”, I will grab that McBoot you’re licking and shove it all the way up your McFuckingAss.

bemusedlybespectacled

lawyer fun fact! sometimes you need to sue someone before your insurance will pay for your medical bills (because your insurance would rather the other person pay for your medical bills so they don’t have to)! sometimes you need to sue because what you’d get from insurance isn’t enough to pay for all of your medical bills! sometimes you want to change a specific thing, like a dangerous practice or defective part, and that’s not going to happen if you just ask nicely!

most truly ridiculous lawsuits get screened before they’re even filed (because someone goes to an attorney and that attorney is like “yeah you don’t have a case here”) or very shortly after they’re filed (because judges can toss out cases that have zero merit). 99% of the time, if it sounds ridiculous but somehow it went all the way to someone suing and winning in a jury trial, it probably wasn’t actually as absurd as it sounds.

movemequotes

Once a little boy went to school.
One morning
The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make a picture.”
“Good!” thought the little boy.
He liked to make all kinds;
Lions and tigers,
Chickens and cows,
Trains and boats;
And he took out his box of crayons
And began to draw.

But the teacher said, “Wait!”
“It is not time to begin!”
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
“Now,” said the teacher,
“We are going to make flowers.”
“Good!” thought the little boy,
He liked to make beautiful ones
With his pink and orange and blue crayons.
But the teacher said “Wait!”
“And I will show you how.”
And it was red, with a green stem.
“There,” said the teacher,
“Now you may begin.”

The little boy looked at his teacher’s flower
Then he looked at his own flower.
He liked his flower better than the teacher’s
But he did not say this.
He just turned his paper over,
And made a flower like the teacher’s.
It was red, with a green stem.

On another day
The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make something with clay.”
“Good!” thought the little boy;
He liked clay.
He could make all kinds of things with clay:
Snakes and snowmen,
Elephants and mice,
Cars and trucks
And he began to pull and pinch
His ball of clay.

But the teacher said, “Wait!”
“It is not time to begin!”
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
“Now,” said the teacher,
“We are going to make a dish.”
“Good!” thought the little boy,
He liked to make dishes.
And he began to make some
That were all shapes and sizes.

But the teacher said “Wait!”
“And I will show you how.”
And she showed everyone how to make
One deep dish.
“There,” said the teacher,
“Now you may begin.”

The little boy looked at the teacher’s dish;
Then he looked at his own.
He liked his better than the teacher’s
But he did not say this.
He just rolled his clay into a big ball again
And made a dish like the teacher’s.
It was a deep dish.

And pretty soon
The little boy learned to wait,
And to watch
And to make things just like the teacher.
And pretty soon
He didn’t make things of his own anymore.

Then it happened
That the little boy and his family
Moved to another house,
In another city,
And the little boy
Had to go to another school.

The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make a picture.”
“Good!” thought the little boy.
And he waited for the teacher
To tell what to do.
But the teacher didn’t say anything.
She just walked around the room.

When she came to the little boy
She asked, “Don’t you want to make a picture?”
“Yes,” said the little boy.
“What are we going to make?”
“I don’t know until you make it,” said the teacher.
“How shall I make it?” asked the little boy.
“Why, anyway you like,” said the teacher.
“And any color?” asked the little boy.
“Any color,” said the teacher.
And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.
